Step Inside Bytes & Brews: Columbus’s Newest Arcade Experience

Bytes & Brews @bytesandbrews had its grand opening today. Located in Uptown Columbus, in the old Vertigo building, this new spot offers a unique and fun experience that’s been missing from the area.

Ribbon Cutting with a Twist

The grand opening was a spectacle, with the Mayor helping with the ribbon cutting using a sword, yes, a sword! Afterward, I was invited in and greeted by a beautiful mural created by @jorikent. The vibrant artwork sets the tone for the exciting atmosphere inside.

Arcade and Entertainment Galore

Inside, pinball machines line the left side along with racing and other arcade games. And of course, ski ball! On the right, there are tables and a bar serving mocktails and eventually alcohol, which is a work in progress. Behind that, a few more arcade games and video game stations. Upstairs, you’ll find more arcade games like Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, and more.

There are also board games and a cool pay-to-play area featuring different systems and games. Tokens are used for all arcade and pinball machines, adding a nostalgic touch to the experience.

A Surprisingly Delicious Menu

The menu is simple, but the food really exceeded my expectations! Most of the menu items are made in-house, and the star of the show is the Smash Burger. It’s hot, seasoned well, and plain delicious. The burger is loaded with small caramelized onions that give it so much flavor, served on a great bun and topped with three pickles.

Chicken Tenders: These were really good, with a flavorful and crispy batter and perfectly cooked. There’s nothing worse than an overcooked tender.

Pretzel Bites: Salty, buttery, and soft, the pretzel bites were fantastic, especially when paired with their Gouda cheese dip 🤤.

Unlimited Popcorn: True to its name, if you run out, just ask for more and you shall receive. Hot, fresh, and buttery, it’s a great snack option.

Mocktails: I also tried a mocktail which was good but a little on the sweet side for me. Nothing wrong with it, just a personal taste. They have multiple flavors, so I need to try the rest, including a butterbeer flavor.

A Fun and Relaxing Environment

Overall, I had a really fun time. After I ate, I played some games, and that’s the point—you can eat, relax, play some games, and just decompress. All ages are welcome, but after 9 PM, it’s adult time. I recommend you stop in, check them out, and form your own opinion. The owners told me this is just the beginning.
