Uptown Flavor: Exploring the Dragon Fruit Bowl at Ride On Smoothie

Dragon Fruit Bowl

We all know that specific kind of Georgia humidity where you walk outside and immediately feel heavy. On days like that, the last thing I want is a hot biscuit or a greasy plate of eggs.

That was exactly the vibe when I walked into Ride On Smoothie & Juice Bar on Broadway. I had seen photos of their neon-pink bowls for months, but I needed to know if they actually tasted as good as they looked—or if it was just “pretty food” for Instagram.

The Vibe

This spot fits Uptown perfectly. It’s clean, bright, and smells like fresh-cut citrus the second you walk in. You can hear the hum of the cold-press machines working in the back, which is always a good sign.

The move here is to grab one of the cozy window seats, eat your bowl, and watch Broadway wake up. It’s arguably one of the best people-watching spots in the city.

The Order: Dragon Superfood Bowl

I went straight for their signature: The Dragon Superfood Bowl.

First off, the color is electric magenta. It’s made from a base of dragon fruit (pitaya), mango, pineapple, and apple juice. But the secret weapon here is a flash of cold-pressed ginger.

Most smoothie bowls just taste like “sweet.” This one hits you with that cold, tropical fruit upfront, but then you get that sharp, spicy zing from the ginger on the back end. It wakes up your palate immediately.

The Texture Test A lot of smoothie bowls turn into a sad, watery soup halfway through. This was thick, velvety, and cold enough to stand a spoon in upright. It eats like a high-end sorbet, not a slushie.

The Toppings (The Crunch Factor)

A smoothie bowl is boring without texture, and they stack this thing correctly.

  • The Sweet: Slices of kiwi and pineapple that actually taste ripe, the snap of coconut flakes, and a light drizzle of honey that ties it all together.
  • The Bitter: The cacao nibs. They add a dark, slightly bitter chocolate crunch that cuts right through the sweetness of the fruit.
  • The Savory: The hemp hearts add a nutty, earthy chew that grounds the whole dish.

Every spoonful is a different mix. You get the cold fruit, the spicy ginger kick, and the bitter crunch of the cacao. It hits every part of your mouth.

Josh’s Take

I’ll be honest,  usually when I hear “Superfood,” I assume it’s going to taste like grass clippings. This doesn’t. It’s creamy, tangy, and deeply satisfying without weighing you down.

If you are in Uptown and need to cool off, skip the iced coffee and grab a spoon instead. It’s 525 calories that leaves you feeling energized, not sluggish.
