That’s the only word to describe the dinner I had at @dishoom.bistro, a new restaurant located in the old JR Cricket building serving up delicious Indian cuisine with a fine dining twist. While the food was absolutely delicious, it was the owner and his passion to elevate Indian cuisine that made this an exceptional experience.
Welcoming Atmosphere
From the moment we sat down, Danish, the owner, made us feel at home. By the end of dinner, I felt I knew his life story. That’s what I love about food – it brings people together!
The Culinary Journey Begins
After looking over the menu and getting some excellent advice on what to choose, we started our food journey. First up was the Mango Lassi. This traditional Indian drink blends yogurt with water, spices, and sometimes fruit. In this case, mango. Cold, creamy, thick, refreshing, and not overly sweet. Yum 🤤.
Appetizers and Small Plates
Chicken Fritters: Juicy and tender chicken fritters battered and fried to a crispy golden brown, topped with a tasty smoky pepper dip.
Keema Karara Chatt: Slow-cooked ground lamb served on crispy flatbread called Papdi, jazzed up with tamarind and spiced yogurt. This is a MUST try!
Main Courses
Punjabi Battered Tilapia: For fish fans, this dish features a massive piece of light, flaky tilapia in a crispy corn batter, with a tangy Chana Jhol to tie it all together. This was excellent!
Seafood Basil Curry: A symphony of flavors with shrimp, crab, and scallops swimming in a delicious coconut basil curry.
Chicken Tikka Masala: My favorite dish, featuring tender grilled chicken in a flavorful creamy tomato sauce. The smell alone will put you into a state of bliss 🤤.
Garlic Naan: Soft and fluffy naan infused with finely chopped garlic, imparting a robust and aromatic garlic flavor.
The Grand Finale: Dessert
However, the best was saved for last – a truly remarkable dessert that takes four days to piece together. This three-layered ice cream features pistachio, mango, and vanilla. It was easily one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten! Simple, elegant, and beyond good.
Final Thoughts
I’ll admit, I figured the food would be good, but I never expected to be blown away and left speechless. Dishoom Bistro has set an extremely high bar. So if you call yourself a foodie or just love food, you MUST give this place a try ASAP!
