Hey Georgia Foodies! If you didn’t know, my wife and I are huge fans of Chinese food. It’s one of our favorite cuisines, but I’ll be the first to admit, finding top-notch Chinese food in Columbus can be a challenge. So when we heard about a new Chinese food spot, Xin Kee BBQ, opening up inside the Asian Supermarket on Milgen Road, our interest was instantly piqued.
First Impressions
Upon entering, we were surprised by the spacious setup. The restaurant had plenty of tables, and everything was clean. It had a cozy, mall food court vibe which added to the casual dining experience. What really caught our attention was their menu, which included Dim Sum—a rare find in Columbus. This alone was a sign that Xin Kee BBQ had to get a visit.
Starting with Dim Sum
Our culinary journey began with Pork Shumai, a dish we’ve tried in other cities during our travels. These bite-sized delights sort of let us down. They weren’t bad by any means but were way smaller than what we’ve had at other places. Personally, these were just okay for me.
Black Pepper Chicken
Next up, the Black Pepper Chicken. This dish was solid and offered a nice combo of tender chicken and robust black pepper sauce. The sauce was balanced, offering a slight spicy kick that builds gradually, enhanced by aromatic spices. Served alongside vibrant bell peppers and caramelized onions, this dish had a nice texture, and the flavors were solid. I would get it again.
Cashew Chicken
Then came my wife’s choice, the Cashew Chicken. This dish was a combo of tender chicken, roasted cashews, and a mix of vibrant vegetables. The roasted cashews added a delightful crunch and a rich, nutty flavor that complemented the chicken. A medley of crisp vegetables added a burst of freshness and a visual feast to the plate. We both enjoyed this dish!
Overall Experience
While we didn’t reach culinary nirvana, the experience was solid. The dishes were well-cooked, and each had its own personality. Is it the best I’ve had? It’s not, but my personal opinion is it’s a solid option and has some menu items you can’t always find at your local Chinese spot.
The prices are a bit higher than some places, but with inflation, I know that is the case with a lot of places! We will definitely go back and try some other items! But overall, Xin Kee BBQ is worth a try.
Conclusion
If you’re a fan of Chinese cuisine and are looking for new places to explore, Xin Kee BBQ inside the Asian Supermarket on Milgen Road is worth visiting. With a diverse menu that includes rare finds like Dim Sum, you’re bound to find something that piques your interest.
