When I created Columbus Georgia Eats, it was simply from a love of food, my city, and helping people. These passions come together in this post, featuring a local gem, Snacks Chabelita @snackschabelita.
A Family-Owned Business with a Heart
This family-owned business, located at 4475 Warm Springs Rd next to Fiesta Mexican Bar & Grill, was opened by Angelica Sanchez for her 9-year-old autistic daughter, Isabella. In Mexico, Isabella translates to Chabelita. Angelica’s mission was to bring a delicious, yet relatively unknown part of Mexican culture to our city.
A Burst of Mexican Flavors
The moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by Mexican snacks, desserts, treats, and drinks. In the center, a snack bar where masterpieces such as Mangonadas, Fresca Con Crema, Pina Loca, Elote, and more are created.
Aguas De Frutas: I started with Aguas De Frutas, fruit-infused waters made by blending fresh fruits with water. I chose watermelon, which was plenty flavorful, refreshing, and kept me wanting more.
Fresca Con Crema: Next, I tried the Fresca Con Crema, which was incredible. The cup was filled with fresh strawberries in a sweet cream, topped with crunchy granola, whipped cream, and an entire ice cream bar! This treat was epic.
Mangonada: This magnificent drink is thick and rich, with ripe mango pieces swimming in a pool of tangy sherbet. It’s brought together with Chamoy, which is sweet, spicy, and tangy all at once. Sprinkled on top is Tajin, a zingy chili-lime seasoning that adds a kick – it’s like a mini fiesta in every sip! Very filling too!
Pina Loca: Finally, I tried the Pina Loca, a hollowed-out pineapple stuffed to the max with juicy chunks of various fruits and tamarind – a sweet and sour fruit that’s super tangy. There’s a sticky, tart taste that complements the sweetness of the fruits.
An Experience Like No Other
Snacks Chabelita blew me away! This isn’t just a place to eat; the desserts and treats are an experience. The unique combination of Tajin, Chamoy, and Tamarind elevate many of these dishes. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but based on the reviews, I think the majority will fall in love with this gem!
