Hey foodies! I’m back with another Glizzy Fest Vendor Spotlight! This time, I paid a trip to a culinary cornerstone of Columbus, @dinglewoodpharmacyandgifts.
A Historic Gem

This historic establishment, with more than a century under its belt, is acclaimed and well-known for its Scrambled Dog. Dinglewood Pharmacy has been serving the Columbus community since 1918, making it a true local icon.
The Legendary Scrambled Dog
The Dinglewood Pharmacy Scrambled Dog is what other scrambled dogs attempt to live up to. This dish is a messy, but filling and satisfying union of textures and flavors. It starts with a hearty hotdog, covered in delicious, flavorful chili created by the legend Lieutenant Charles Stevens. This isn’t your typical hotdog; it’s a Columbus icon, a true testament to the city’s culinary heritage.
The hotdog is nestled in a soft, fresh bun before being smothered in the famous chili. This chili is not just any chili; it’s a secret recipe that has been perfected over the years, featuring a rich blend of spices and ingredients that give it a unique taste. After a generous heaping of their famous chili blankets everything, they top it with crunchy oyster crackers, pickles, and finish it off with some diced-up onion. Each bite just makes me feel good because it is good. And sometimes, it’s those simple, little moments in this crazy world we live in that make it all worth it.

But the experience is more than just trying the Scrambled Dog. When you step inside Dinglewood, you’re instantly transported back in time. The interior is reminiscent of a classic American diner and soda fountain bar. With its checkered floors, vintage bar stools, and nostalgic decor, it’s just a really cool vibe you have to experience for yourself. It’s like stepping into a slice of Americana, where time seems to slow down, and the hustle and bustle of the outside world fade away.
And, of course, you can’t get the Scrambled Dog without a side of crispy, seasoned fries because that big bowl of chili needs a little love. 😏 The fries at Dinglewood are perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, seasoned to perfection, making them the perfect accompaniment to the hearty Scrambled Dog.

According to various sources, including The Ledger-Enquirer, Firm Robert’s is credited with inventing the first Scrambled Dog. Years later, it was popularized by Lieutenant Charles Stevens, who was a cook at Dinglewood, where he served up his special version to the community for years. Stevens’ version became a local sensation, drawing people from all over to try this unique and flavorful dish.

Nate, the man behind the grill, is genuinely one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. His passion for cooking and his customers is evident in every interaction.
